The start = On Tuesday, June 14, 2005 Becky began her recovery process from breast cancer by having mastectomy surgery to remove the cancer and reconstruction. She was admitted to Bedford County Hospital where she expects to be for the next 3 to 5 days.
9:30 AM - Becky and Walter leave for the hospital.
12:00 noon - Becky is scheduled for surgery at noon. We expect this will take 3 to 5 hours.
12:45 PM - The surgeons have started the procedure. We will update the website if we hear anything. They expect to be out of surgery around 5:00 PM.
4:10 PM - Becky is out of surgery. She did very well. She will be in the intensive care section for several days. The doctors are discouraging visitors at this time.
5:30 PM - We visited with Becky, and she is very alert, but medicated for pain. Many of her family members spent some time visiting. Her spirits are good along with her sense of humor.
9:30 AM - Becky had a restful night. She is still in intensive care because they want to watch her closely due to the amount of surgery performed. She is in good spirits. The preliminary results from the surgeon indicate the cancer was not attached to surrounding tissue. We must wait for the pathology report in a few days to get definitive information.
8:30 PM - Becky was up and out of bed this afternoon. She is very sore as expected. She is still in the intensive care section of Bedford County Hospital for observation purposes. She is progressing well.
7:51 AM - Becky had a restful night. She has already been up this morning on the edge of her bed. She ate some breakfast and feels better today. The energy has returned to her voice. She will be getting up more today. The doctors are still restricting visitors.
5:20 PM - Becky has been practicing getting out bed today. She is very near to accomplishing the task by herself. The doctors are hinting about letting her go home tomorrow or Saturday. She is now on reduced pain medication and very alert. Walter and Becky thank everyone for their prayers and support.
8:42 AM - Becky has been walking short distances around her bed. She had a restful night. Her IV was removed this morning. Therefore, she is more mobile. The oral pain medication does not react as quickly as the IV medicine, but everyone is beginning to adjust the doses. All of her vitals and stats look good. As one nurse said, "She is the textbook case."
